In order to communicate new knowledge and keep up-to-date, it is necessary for teachers in Nigerian secondary schools to be trained in contemporary teaching strategies in order to build on previous experience of teaching and learning in physics. The study discusses the current condition of Physics education in Nigerian Secondary Schools. It highlights thechallenges of teaching and learning of Physics in the country towards enhancing a sustainable development intechnology. The problems facing the traditional strategies of teaching Physics in secondary schools are highlighted and suggestions are made towards improvingthe teaching and learning of Physics in Nigeria.Some contemporary teaching techniques are advanced. These strategies include e-learning, independent study tasks, project work, mixed workshop, problem-based learning and, case studies.
